Incantatio II

Description
In 1987 I started my collaboration with bass clarinet player Hein Pijnenburg. To get to know his instrument intimately I composed Incantatio II.
This work plays out two different contrasts: the dark low register against the tender light register and the stark rhythmic quintuple against a slow quint motive (notice the all-encompassing
idea of the number five here). These opposites are developed in a rather classical way into a concise composition. The first performance of Incantatio II was given by Hein in 1987 at ”The ”IJsbreker”, Amsterdam.
