Description
Duo Basso II ‘In Memory of Ray Brown’ was composed in 2002 and premiered two years later at Bass-Fest 2004 at Sherborne School (Dorset, UK). In one extended movement and primarily played pizzicato, this is a work of great ingenuity and invention and is aimed at the advanced duo. There is a strong narrative and dramatic propulsion, inspired by the playing of the great Ray Brown (1926-2002), but within a modern sound world and idiom. There are modern techniques employed to create rhythmic energy and colour, with musical and technical challenges aplenty, and this is both player and audience friendly. Both players perform from the same score.
